Our Santa Maria Branch of AAUW is pleased to have as

our guest speaker, Adelina Alva Padilla the Spiritual

Leader and Cultural Advisor for the Santa Ynez Band

of Chumash Indians, at our Nov. 13th meeting. Some of

her many accomplishments are: served on the 2001 World

Conference Against Racism in South Africa with Nobel

Peace Prize Recipient Rigoberta Manchu, spoke at Harvard

Univ. for the Honoring of Nations Conference, created the

Spiritual Healing Center at the Santa Ynez Indian Res-

ervation and recently led the Healing Circle for the annual

Chumash Powwow. Adelina serves as an advisor for our

state wide Native American Ceremony of the CA Bears.

Ms. Padilla also is a Tribal Elders Governing Board

Member, serves on the Museum Advisory Counsel and

the Ca Senior Leadership Group of Healthy Aging.
