On Friday, January 14th, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce will once again combine their General Membership Luncheons at Vandenberg Air Force Base. The guest speaker will be Colonel Richard Boltz who will give a review of the past year in terms of budget, rocket launches, achievements and community relations. He will also give a projection of what is to come in 2011.

Vandenberg’s forces conduct spacelift and range operations and support operational and developmental missile system testing for the Department of defense from the West Coast of the United States. Vandenberg AFB is the only U.S. Platform for polar orbit launches and the only location to conduct intercontinental ballistic missile testing without over-flying populated areas. The VIP wing’s also has primary responsibility for Air Force Space – Command’s war fighting readiness competition, Guardian Challenge.

Col. Richard Boltz, commander of the 30th Space Wing and the Western Range at Vandenberg Air Force Base, assumed command from Col. David Buck upon his selection for reassignment to U.S. Central Command where he will serve as the director of space operations forces in Southeast Asia.

Colonel Boltz’s past assignments include commander of the 17th Test Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., and director of joint exercises and training at U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB, Neb.
