The Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees has instituted a summertime four-day work week in order to save on utility costs. The four-day schedule will run for 10 weeks beginning June 6. The college and all centers will be closed nine Fridays: June 10, 17 and 24; July 1, 15, 22 and 29; and Aug. 5 and 12; and one Monday, July 4 (Independence Day holiday).
Allan Hancock College does not offer classes on Fridays during the summer term. Employees will work longer hours Monday through Thursday to maintain the same level of public access and student service.
One noted exception to the Friday closure is PCPA—the theatre and its offices will remain open on Fridays throughout the summer.
“Last year, through reduced utility usage, we saved about $25,000 by closing on Fridays,” said Rebecca Alarcio, director of Public Affairs and Publications. Based on current budget projections, Allan Hancock College is facing a $6.6 million budget deficit for 2011-12.
Full college operations, Monday through Friday, will resume the week of Aug. 15. Fall classes begin Aug. 22.
