The Clark Center for the Performing Arts presents the groove-based bluegrass band Crooked Still, on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 8pm.

Since forming in Boston in 2001, Crooked Still has shattered preconceptions of traditional music without sacrificing authenticity. The Boston Globe praised their modern approach to traditional music by saying, “Crooked Still may be the most important folk group to emerge from Boston…state-of-the-art musical chops with a deep understanding of American traditional music’s raw melodic grace.”

Comprised of band members Aoife O’Donovan (vocals/guitar), Corey DiMario (double bass), Gregory Liszt (banjo), Tristan Clarridge (cello), and Brittany Haas (fiddle), Crooked Still brings a diversity of talent that is simply spectacular. Familiar tunes are suddenly brand-new, engaging and infused with intensity. With an outstanding mix of bluegrass traditionals, original recordings and covers – including a particularly fantastic cover of the Rolling Stones’ “You Got the Silver” – Crooked Still has created a collective work of art that fits comfortably into the hallowed halls of musical history.

Crooked Still’s reputation as a raucously energetic live band has earned them invitations to huge events like the historic Newport and Telluride Festivals. Their performances across the country and internationally have cemented them as crowd favorites wherever they play.

National Public Radio named their acclaimed 2010 album, Some Strange Country one of the top folk albums of 2010. With their new album, Friends of Fall, Crooked Still cements theirposition as one of the most impressively visionary performers of string music playing today. Crooked Still is a band that you don’t want to miss.
