The arts inspire, they increase tourism, they define cultures, they enhance our ability to learn….and they do SO much more..
That is why October is being officially declared “Arts & Humanities Month” in Santa Maria for the second year. To participate in the festivities, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitor and Convention Bureau has teamed up with City of Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department and the Santa Maria Arts Council to bring back an old favorite event – Salute to the Arts.
The purpose of the event is to emphasize the signficance of arts in our community, and celebrate our local artists in a fun-filled afternoon.
The event will be held Wednesday, October 12. Doors open for viewing displays at 11:30. Program begins at 12:00 noon. The cost is $15 and includes a lunch catered by VTC Enterprises.
Bob Hatch (President & CEO of the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce) and Craig Shafer (President of Santa Maria Arts Council) will host and remind all of the importance of arts in our community. There will be displays of fine arts as well as live painting and pottery demonstrations.
The main event will be the live performances by:
- Alan Hancock Dance – excerpt from Dimension sin Dance
- PCPA – 2 songs by Kitty Balay and Andrew Philpot
- Coastal Voices – 2 songs
- Santa Maria Civic Theatre – scene from It’s a Wonderful Life, radio drama
- Santa Maria Philharmonic – TBA
