The City of Santa Maria will dedicate Johnson Drive in memory of Senior Airman Daniel James Johnson, on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. City dignitaries will be present, along with members of the Johnson family.

The City is dedicating Johnson Drive to remember and honor Johnson, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician who was killed in the line of duty on October 5, 2010 in Hendu, Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Johnson joined the United States Air Force in November 2006.  After earning his EOD technical training badge from EOD Naval School in 2007, he was assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base’s 30th Civil Engineer Squadron.  Dan was very proud to serve, protect, and defend his country. He served a seven-month tour of duty in Iraq during 2009. Upon his return home, he married the love of his life, Kristen Harlow, a Santa Maria native, in June 2010. He was again deployed to Afghanistan in August 2010 and was just 23 years old when he gave the last full measure of devotion for his country.  Johnson had a heart of compassion and was an active participant in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in the local community.  His widow, family members, and friends carry on his charitable work through fund-raising efforts in his name.
