Allan Hancock College Community Education offers computer classes for anyone looking to learn new or improve upon previously-learned computer skills.  Classes are available in Santa Maria, Lompoc and Solvang.  There is no enrollment fee, but a $5 materials fee is required for each class.

Computers and You: Level 1 (bilingual instruction)
This introductory, hands-on class is designed for people with little or no knowledge of computers.  Learn how to use computers and their basic components.  In addition, learn basic keyboarding and mouse skills, basic terminology and software applications that are common in personal computers.  MS Word and Windows operating systems, as well as the Internet, are introduced.  The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 24 – May 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Atkinson Center, 1000 N. Railroad Ave., Santa Maria.

Computers and You: Level 2

Students learn more complex MS Word processing skills, along with Internet and email applications and are also introduced to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.  Two class meeting options are available:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 26 – May 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Atkinson Center, 1000 N. Railroad Ave., Santa Maria.  (Bilingual)
  • Tuesdays, Jan. 24 – May 15, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the AHC Solvang Center, room 2, 320 Alisal Road, Ste. 306, Solvang.

Introduction to Microsoft Word

Students learn to create professional quality letters, certificates, flyers, labels and more in this introductory class that meets Mondays, Jan. 23 – May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lompoc Valley Center, Room 2-121, One Hancock Drive.

Introduction to Excel

Students learn the basics of Excel on Thursdays, Jan. 26 – May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lompoc Valley Center, room 2-118, One Hancock Drive.  Instruction includes working in a spreadsheet to create formulas, charts, and tables.  Students also become familiar with the many financial functions of Excel.
