The Discovery Museum is proud to announce its 15th anniversary of being the only children’s museum in Santa Barbara County.  A big celebration is planned for January 27th, 2012 starting at 5:30 pm and the Discovery Museum.  For 15 years the museum has served to educate, inspire and serve the children and families of our valley with interactive and play-based learning in the form of exhibits, camps, free enrichment programs and other special activities.  In conjunction with the Museum’s annual “Celebrate” event—a thank you event for all donors and supporters of the Museum–this year the Museum is thrilled to also celebrate this important historical milestone.  “Having become a member the first year the museum opened, it is thrilling to see what it has become today and to know that I was a part of it,” shares Suzanne Levy, 15th Anniversary Committee Chair and museum board member from 1997 – 2005.  Ms. Levy goes on to remark, “I am looking forward to reconnecting with others at our anniversary event who are part of the museum’s history like I am.”

The anniversary event promises to be a festive evening to celebrate and remember all of the Museum’s accomplishments over the past 15 years and learn about plans for the future.  Former board members and volunteers who helped the museum reach this milestone will be recognized.  Current president of the board of directors, Kerry Hansen comments, “I’m very proud to be a part of this great organization’s present history and am excited about what the future holds for this museum.”

Never failing to provide fun, hands-on activities for all who enter the Museum, an interactive time line will be part of the event and all attendees are invited to add their own memories about the major accomplishments, small steps, and personal experiences that helped bring the museum to where it is today.

All former board members, volunteers, donors, staff, and early members are especially invited to attend.  Please  RSVP online at or by calling 805-928-8414.  You may also contact the current executive director, Kelly White O’Neill at to share any museum memories or to update your contact information or information for anyone who should be receiving information about this important community event.
