Ohio and Indiana may have had Johnny Appleseed to plant and foster tree growth in the Midwest, but the Santa Maria branch of AAUW has its own tree lover. AAUW members, guests, and members of the public are invited to the installation of the 2012-13 officers, to be led by its very own environmentalist, President Martha Hight. Ms. Hight, who is sometimes known as Martha Jacaranda-seed, was instrumental in the planting of a Mimosa tree in Priesker Park to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Santa Maria Branch of AAUW, a “green-talk” column in the monthly newsletter, and her goal to encourage all to make GREEN statements in their communities. The installation of officers will take place on Thursday, May 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Quail Meadows West Clubhouse at 866 Whippoorwill Drive in Santa Maria. All are invited to join in the lighthearted characterization of Martha Jacaranda-seed, enjoy the light refreshments, and learn how to grow jacaranda trees from seeds. Reservations may be made by sending a $10 check (payable to AAUW) by May 12th, to 780 Via Vista Verde, Santa Maria, CA 93455. For further information, please call Marion Patterson at 928-2881 or Lynda Snodgrass at 925-5426.
