Battle of Shallowford
The action takes place during the evening of October 30, 1938 at Mock’s General Store, a combination grocery store and post office in Shallowford, N.C., a small farming town 15 miles west of Winston-Salem. Mercury Theatre’s radio broadcast of “The War of the Worlds” sends panic into the minds of the store’s patrons. Convinced it is actually taking place and threatening their very existence they prepare to meet the enemy head on. The comedy that ensues is hilarious until a cooler head prevails.
