Santa Maria Swim Club members Josh Prenot and Meghan Zimmer will be competing for spots on the 2012 USA Olympic Swimming Team, starting June 25 in Omaha, Nebraska. Prenot will compete in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke, 200 & 400 IM and 200 Butterfly. Zimmer will compete in the 200 Freestyle.

Josh Prenot has been developing at the Santa Maria Swim Club since age 9 and recently signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for 2-time National Champion UC Berkeley this fall. Prenot is ranked in the top 10 in many of his events and will have to contend with Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps in order to make the team.

Meghan Zimmer has also been a member of the Santa Maria Swim Club since age 8 and competes during the school year for San Diego State University. She was also the Mountain West Swimmer of the Year in 2010 and holds many of the Women’s team records at SMSC.

The USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials is often the ‘fastest meet in the World,’ with 3rd place often being fast enough to win a medal at the Olympics. Only the top 2 finishers in each event get to go to London.

The Santa Maria Swim Club will be holding several public events to celebrate these accomplishments, including a viewing party at Red Robin on June 25 from 6-8PM.
