For the 8th year in a row, the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is hosting it’s “Community Day”—a day with free admission to the museum, extra programs and activities, and lots of fun—on Sunday, August 26th from 12 – 4 pm.  In honor of the birthday of R.H. Tesene, a community leader, historical figure in the development of Santa Maria, and a generous supporter of the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, this annual day of celebration has grown to showcase the museum as one of the leading educational and family-focused institutions in our area.  This great day will offer complementary birthday desserts, a dance performance by Everybody Can Dance, expert paper-airplane making, a chance to meet and touch the many live animals that call the Discovery Museum their home, and even unique crafts designed especially for the day.  All of the hands on exhibits the Discovery Museum is famous for will also be available.  Children and families are invited to visit the museum, spend some time learning and exploring, and enjoy the many activities offered throughout the day.

The Museum is located at 705 S. McClelland in Santa Maria and is open Monday through Saturday beginning at 10 am with expanded hours every Thursday evening.  Visitors can enjoy hands on learning on a variety of subjects including local marine life, farming and agriculture, exotic animals and reptiles as well as the creative arts and children of all ages will find something to engage and excite them.  For more information, visit the museum website at www.smvdiscoverymuseum.org or call 805-928-8414.
