Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties opened its second full line store in the Santa Maria Valley on September 13th. The new store is located at 3486 Orcutt Road next to the new Dollar Tree store. The store is open seven days a week from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. This location replaces the Bookstore and Donation Center that was located on Clark Street. “There was such a demand for additional product by customers that it made sense to open a significantly larger store” said Kathy Leahy, President and CEO.
Goodwill Industries is a private, nonprofit organization that operates four retail stores and donation centers in Santa Barbara Counties, as well as two Workforce Service centers located in Santa Maria and Lompoc. The purpose of Goodwill Industries is to provide training and job placement services to people with barriers to employment. The majority of the services are funded by Goodwill through the collection and sale of donated goods. The organization employs 300 people, and will serve an additional 1,500 individuals in various job training and placement programs throughout the two county area this year.
In addition, Goodwill is an authorized collector of e-waste and accepts all electronics, working or not. The organization as a whole diverts approximately eight million pounds of material from local landfills each year. Donating to Goodwill is not only a good way to support job training and employment, but it is a good way to support the environment.
