PEACE WEEK  v September 14-20, 2012

WHO: The 16th Annual Peace Week is sponsored by the People for Nonviolence Committee of Marian Regional Medical Center and is made up of hospital employees and local educational, religious, business, medical and civic leaders.

WHAT: Peace Week 2012 festivities will conclude with Thursday as Peace in the Community Day. This day will be celebrated with a special Closing Ceremony and free Community Luncheon.

WHEN:          The Closing Ceremony and Community Luncheon will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 12 to 1 p.m.

WHERE: The Closing Ceremony and Community Luncheon will take place at the Abel Maldonado Center, 600 S. McClelland Street, Santa Maria.

WHY: Like all Peace Week events, admission to the Closing Ceremony is free and the Community Luncheon is also free for all attendees. The event will include student musical performances and the presentation of the Peace Builder Award to an active community member known for his positive contributions to life in the Santa Maria Valley. As it is each year, the Annual Peace Builder Award is a surprise announcement and following the award presentation the honoree will address the crowd with an acceptance speech. During the luncheon attendees will hear an inspirational message from a former student of Los Prietos Boys Camp (a Santa Barbara institution that provides a local commitment option for delinquent males between the ages of 13 and 18) about his journey of restorative justice and finding peace. The event will conclude with the annual release of doves while students sing the Peace Week anthem.
