For the fifteenth year, the Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis and Rabobank invite the community to donate clean and gently worn coats during their annual December Coat Drive. The coat drive will run for 9 days and begins Thursday, December 6th and ends on Friday December 14th. As in year’s past, the Noontime Kiwanis is partnering with Rabobank to make the coat drive as easy for the community as possible. Coats can be donated to any of the five Santa Maria and Orcutt Rabobank branches during all normal business hours. Drop boxes will be clearly marked and the coats of all sizes and types are needed. All coats that are collected will be delivered to the Santa Maria office of Catholic Charities where they will be given out to the public and to local social service agencies. The Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis group is eager to collect more coats than ever to serve the increasing number of children and families who find themselves unable to provide for their basic needs. For more information you can check the Kiwanis website at www.santamariakiwanis.org or ask any Noontime Kiwanian.
The Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis was founded May 19, 1923 and is deeply committed to the International Kiwanis motto: Serving the children of the world. The club regularly supports local youth, family, and community groups through fundraising projects, donating work, materials, and expertise for projects and providing regular financial support through scholarships. The Club has a distinguished history of being the recipient of many Kiwanis International and Community Service Honors and awards and is recognized as helping to build Santa Maria’s first public pool, and founding one of Santa Maria Valley’s first computer reading labs in public schools. The club is open to anyone interesting in serving the community and applications are accepted year round.
