AAUW January 2013 Program

Growing Up Around Hearst Castle by Marj Sewell

The Santa Maria Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) will be learning all about life around Hearst Castle during the 1930’s at the January 19th meeting.   Marj Sewell, dressed in period clothing from the 1930’s era, will share her fascinating experiences, tell stories about life at the “castle,” and display her photographs of that long ago era.  Marj lived in the small village of San Simeon when her father was a gardener for William Randolph Hearst.  She and the other San Simeon children spent time on the Hearst Ranch, and came in contact with the rich and famous from the 1930’s.   Currently, Marj participates in the Hearst Castle Living History Program, dressing in period costumes, wearing hair styles from the 1930’s, and offering visitors a peak into the past when many socially prominent guests including politicians, journalists and Hollywood movie stars visited the estate.  All current AAUW members, guests and interested parties are invited to attend the luncheon at the Santa Maria Inn where attendees may feast on either Chicken Cordon Bleu or Pasta Fresca.   Reservations will be accepted until January 16th.  To make a reservation, please send a $26 check payable to AAUW, 1663 Chadwell Drive, Santa Maria, CA  93454.  Please write on the check the luncheon choice of either Chicken Cordon Bleu or Pasta Fresca.  For further information call, 925-5426 or 928-2881
