The new 2013-14 season of The MET: Live in HD opens its new 2013-14 season with a local screening series that features 10 high-definition transmissions to the Cohan Center large screen from the Metropolitan Opera’s stage in New York City.

The Met: Live in HD Cohan Center series, co-presented by Cal Poly Arts and Opera SLO, launches with an encore screening of the Tchaikovsky opera, EUGENE ONEGIN, on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien star as the lovestruck Tatiana and the imperious Onegin in Tchaikovsky’s fateful romance. Deborah Warner’s new production, set in the late 19th century, moves episodically from farmhouse to ballroom, with a powerful snowstorm providing the dramatic setting for the finale. Piotr Beczala is Lenski, Onegin’s friend turned rival. Russian maestro Valery Gergiev conducts.  Run time: 3 hours, 45 minutes

Eugene Onegin is a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera and English National Opera.

Local screening sponsored by Yvonne & John Edmisten, in memory of Greg Hind.

On Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2 p.m., the opera series continues with an encore screening of Shostakovich’s THE NOSE.

William Kentridge stormed the Met with his inventive production of Shostakovich’s opera, which dazzled opera and art lovers alike in its inaugural run in 2010. Now Paulo Szot reprises his acclaimed performance of a bureaucrat, whose satirical misadventures in search of his missing nose are based on Gogol’s comic story. Valery Gergiev conducts.
