Los Flores Ranch Concludes 2013 Outside in Nature Play Days

Visit Los Flores Ranch Park on Saturday, November 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 am for the last of the 2013 Outside in Nature Play Days. Join Science Discovery as part of the day’s program and learn all about vermicomposting (using worms to compost), as well as a nature walk, and other exciting activities. This free program is open to everyone, and is made possible through a generous grant from the California State Habitat Conservation Fund.

Free round-trip transportation is available to Los Flores Ranch Park, 6271 Dominion Road, from the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center; please call (805) 925-0951 extension 260 to reserve your place on the shuttle. 17th Annual Turkey Trot 5K & Kids 1-Mile Fun Run

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department invites runners of all fitness levels to participate in the 17th Annual Turkey Trot 5K and Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Hagerman Sports Complex, 3300 Skyway Drive.

Participants ages 14 and up can test their endurance before the “big feast” in the 5K race which loops twice around Waller Park. Participants ages 6-13 are invited to participate in the one-mile run along the Hagerman Sports Complex multi-purpose trail. Registration fee is $20 by November 14 and $25 thereafter. Fee includes a Sport-Tek T-shirt. Medals will be awarded to 1st– and 2nd-place male and female finishers in 18 age divisions.

Movie Night at the Library on December 11

Join the Santa Maria Public Library for a free evening at the movies at 5:30 p.m. on December 11th in Shepard Hall.

The movie, A Christmas Story, is based on the book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by the humorist Jean Shepherd.  This charming, light-hearted classic film is rated PG and captures the warmth and humor of a bygone era.

Seating is limited and is offered on a first come, first served basis.

The Santa Maria Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.   The library is closed on Sunday.
