Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Santa Barbara County is pleased to announce that Executive Director Kim Colby Davis and Board Member Sandra Brown were honored on Wednesday night during the Santa Maria Women’s Network ‘Women of Excellence’ awards dinner at the Historic Santa Maria Inn.

The Women of Excellence awards dinner is an annual event in recognition of women in our community who have contributed with strength of character, personal growth, past work, and a vision for the future. Davis and Brown were among eleven women nominated for the 2014 Women of Excellence Awards in the categories of Women Taking Creative Risks, Women Helping Women, Women of Spirit, and Lifetime Achievement.

Kim Colby Davis received the Women of Spirit award. This award honors continuous dedication and a generosity of spirit. Women in this category exude a special sense of mission in their field of work or giving. These women often dedicate their hearts to one particular cause and demonstrate a consistent and generous devotion to an endeavor.

In accepting the award, Davis commented: “ …if one child has been made safer through my efforts, if even one child has felt love and protection instead of abuse and chaos, then that is truly excellent.  I am honored by this recognition of my efforts…”

Sandra Brown received the Women Taking Creative Risks award.  This award honors creativity, courage, and strength of character. Women in this category persist in finding ways to succeed in extreme circumstances, pioneer in nontraditional occupations, or stand up for their principles. These women often dedicate their lives to a unique field of work.
