Sixty area high school and college students are exploring a career in medicine through the program
The Dignity Health Central Coast Physician Mentoring Program is kicking off with more than 60 local high school and college student participants taking part in orientation on June 18th, and you are invited to come learn more about this important program.
WHO: Members of the media are invited to attend a portion of the student orientation for the Dignity Health Central Coast Physician Mentoring Program. A physician mentor and student participants will be available to speak to the media at the event, and for photos as they don their lab coats. WHAT: High School and college students from across the Central Coast are attending an orientation that marks the beginning of two months of mentorship by more than 70 experienced physicians, dentists and physician assistants. The Physician Mentoring program involves mentors from Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH) and Marian Regional Medical Center (MRMC), and a three day per week commitment by the students. The program is designed to inspire college students and high school juniors and seniors to pursue a career in medicine, and involves shadowing mentors as they care for patients. This year’s Physician Mentoring Program begins on June 23rd and concludes on August 8th.
WHERE: The Conference Center at Marian Regional Medical Center, located at the corner of South Palisade Drive and West Church Street in Santa Maria.

WHY: The Dignity Health Central Coast Physician Mentoring Program aims to expose students who have an interest in pursuing a medical career to a variety of specialties within the medical field. The program also conveys to participants the realities and importance of a career in medicine. The student participants must be at least 17 years old and are recommended for the program by their school counselor.
