he Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum announces summer membership discounts and a Members Only Sundae Sunday on June 22nd from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.  New and renewing memberships are being offered at a 10% discount through July 1st, including a new Grandparents program and a reduced price on Basic Family Memberships.

Guests who purchase a new or renewal membership at the June 22nd members-only event receive a free museum t-shirt.  Everyone who attends Sundae Sunday will receive a free raffle ticket and a chance to win prizes, including a Discovery Museum Birthday Party, a LEGO Speedorz set, t-shirts, and more.  Ice cream sundaes will be provided by Doc Burnstein’s, and kids will get the chance to conduct ice cream science experiments and make cool balloon crafts.

“There has never been a better time to be a member of the Discovery Museum,” said Executive Director Chris Slaughter.  “The museum is in great shape for our summer crowds, with more programs and events than ever offered before, and a membership pays for itself in less than five visits.”

Membership and admission includes special events like the upcoming visit with Smokey the Bear on Saturday, June 28th and Princess Ariel during Tuesday Tales, July 1st.   Smokey the Bear will be teaching fire safety and Ariel will share a part of her world with an enchanted story, a lesson on princess etiquette and an opportunity to take pictures and sign autographs.

In addition to Science Saturday, Super Sunday, Tuesday Tales and Wednesday’s Preschool Patrol, the museum has added Passport Thursday to its weekly programs for members and museum guests.  Every week they will explore traditions from around the world, from music, art and clothing, to food and families.  Kids make their own passports and get a stamp for each country they explore, with prizes for five or more stamps.

All of these programs are offered free of charge for members, along with discounts for birthday parties, museum merchandise and summer camps.  Sign ups for summer camps are available on line now for ages 4-12.  Kids aged 7-10 can learn about, touch and interact with real constrictors, lizards, turtles and tortoises at Crazy Critter Camp from July 10-12.  Cub Reporter Camp, July 16-20, is an in-depth, hands-on journalism experience for ages 8-12.  And Safety Town Camp teaches the fundamentals of fire, traffic, animals, strangers, earthquake and household safety, July 21-25, for ages 4-7.
