CoastHills Credit Union recently promoted two managers, hired two new branch managers and welcomed a new foundation director.

Rob Covarrubias has been promoted to vice president, commercial lending.  He has been with CoastHills for three years, and was previously assistant vice president of business services. In his new capacity, Covarrubias will oversee all commercial loan activities at CoastHills, including sales, underwriting, operations and oversight of all branches. He has 24 years of commercial banking experience, much of it in northern San Luis Obispo County, and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Graduate Commercial Lending/Banking School.

Kevin Johns has been promoted to vice president of retail sales.  He was regional manager for CoastHills’ Paso Robles, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo and Five Cities branches.  Johns previously served as vice president of operations with TruWest Credit Union in Austin, Texas.  He also served as an i3 member of the Filene Research Institute and graduated from Western CUNA Management School. As the vice president of retail sales at CoastHills, Johns will plan and coordinate the sales strategies and service activities at its 11 branches.

Long-time Atascadero resident Ryun McCrory is the new CoastHills Atascadero branch manager. After graduating from Atascadero High School, McCrory earned a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in economics from Cal Poly, SLO. He has 15 years of banking experience in local financial institutions, most recently with Santa Lucia Bank and Founders Community Bank. He is experienced in all aspects of business and consumer lending.

James Thomas, former vice president/branch manager for Union Bank and Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, is now manager at the CoastHills Santa Maria and Nipomo branches. Thomas, who was born and raised in Lompoc and has lived in Santa Maria since 1999, attended Allan Hancock College and Cal State Bakersfield, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a management concentration. He has experience in all aspects of consumer and business lending including application, processing, and underwriting.

Rebecca Alarcio, who was the long-time director of Public Affairs at Allan Hancock College, has been hired as the credit union’s community foundation director.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal Poly, SLO, and a master’s degree in organizational leadership.  Alarcio will oversee CoastHills’ extensive community sponsorships, grants and fundraising, and provide support in marketing and communications.
