Over the last year, the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has entered into partnership with the Santa Barbara Foundation, Orfalea Foundation and the Community Environmental Council to create a Food Action Plan.  The goal is to ensure a sustainable system of healthy food for everyone in the county.  An Advisory Board of professionals from the health industry, agricultural community, business community, schools, and many more, has been established to guide the process.  Dave Cross from the SMV Chamber of Commerce is participating on that Advisory Board.

Community input is also being sought.  Later this month, there will be three community “Listening Sessions” around the county to engage the general public in discussions about the need, allowing them to share their ideas for action.  The suggestions garnered will help to shape the ultimate Food Action Plan.  The Santa Maria area Session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Cornerstone Room.  See attached flyer for more details about the Listening Sessions, along with an overview of the Food Action Plan.
