Talents and the imaginations of young artists will be on display this March in the Santa Maria Arts Council’s 35th Annual Student Arts Show. The show will be open to the public in the Town Center – upper level toward Macys from March 5 through March 28.
Teachers have been invited to select their students’ work from grades 7 – 12 in the categories of drawing, painting, design, and photography.
An artists’ reception will be held Wednesday, March 25 from 5:00 – 6:00pm with awards presentation at 5:30pm.
Besides certificates of participation, ribbons and cash prizes to first, second, and third place winner, the students who enter their work in a public art show are rewarded in intangible ways, self-esteem, creativity, expanded perceptual capacity, and a chance to share their accomplishment with the community, family and friends.
Supporting and encouraging the expansion of the arts, the Santa Maria Arts Council’s Student Art Show hopes to encourage ongoing art in education programs and recognize the talent of local students. In addition to the Student Art Show, the Council supports emerging artists through its individual grants program which this year will award over $13,000 to artists in the areas of dance, drama, visual arts, and music and the arts in education program grants through the Lester B. Hayes Trust fund with $2,500 in grants to be awarded this year.
