The Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce the second annual Day of Hope community event raised $135,000 to support cancer care at Mission Hope Cancer Center.
Thanks to overwhelming support from our local community businesses, civic groups, students and individuals, the second annual Day of Hope was a great success, far exceeding the event’s goal and raising $135,000. All Day of Hope donor contributions are applied to Marian Cancer Care, bringing vital programs and services to Mission Hope Cancer Center patients and families.
“It was both an encouraging and inspirational day throughout the Santa Maria Valley as people from all walks of life rallied in support of the second annual Day of Hope event,” said Monica Rocco, M.D., F.A.C.S., Medical Director, Mission Hope Breast Care Center. “The unexpected diagnosis and journey of cancer often brings exhausting emotional challenges and financial burdens. What is special about Day of Hope is that all event proceeds remain local and are used to help Central Coast cancer patients by funding patient outreach services, the latest medical equipment and technology, and support programs.”
The second annual Day of Hope took place on April 16, 2015, with 52 enthusiastic teams comprised of 400 community volunteers. Event participants took to the streets between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., uniting for one purpose: to sell $1.00 ‘special edition’ Day of Hope Santa Maria Times newspapers in support of Marian Cancer Care patients and families at Mission Hope Cancer Center.
“The incredible success of Day of Hope would not have been possible without the support of our generous community,” states Stephanie Grogan, Vice President of Philanthropy, Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation. “We want to recognize and thank our event partner the Santa Maria Times, our media and financial sponsors, team leaders, participants, and community members for their dedication to this event. All funds raised will make a lasting impact in the lives of local cancer patients who are our neighbors, friends, and family members.”
Although the Day of Hope has concluded, community members can still make donations in support of local cancer patients and families at Mission Hope Cancer Center. For more information about the ways you can give, please contact the Marian Foundation at 805.739.3595.
