The Santa Maria Sunrisers Lions Club celebrated their 30th anniversary of charter on May 5, 2015 with a ribbon cutting at the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce office.

On hand for the Sunrisers were Charter Member and Past President Mike Miranda as well as Lions Jose Nichols, Erika Ballesteros, Nancy Pacheco, Mario Trejo, Mario Evangelista, Kathy Rick, Victor Debayona, and current President Don Bock.

The Sunrisers meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:15 am at Sunset Ridge Golf Club as a breakfast meeting.

As with all Lions clubs, vision and hearing is the primary mission of the Sunrisers.  In recent years the club has reached out into the community to assist various organizations at Santa Maria High School by providing funding for end of year school trips as well as needed resources.  The Sunrisers also provide other forms of community service by serving food at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease and cooking and serving for the Los Compadres’ (a group of mentors to at-risk male youth) annual handball tournament.
