Whether you already use environmentally sensitive practices in your day-to-day operations with little to no credit or you need some guidance in how to get started, a new program will help you become certified and officially recognized as a green business.

The Green Business Academy is a series of workshops that will give you the tools and training necessary to green your business operations. It will give you a cohort of other businesses to network with and lean on to achieve certification. The first workshop for North County businesses is 3-5 p.m.on October 7th at Hardy Diagnostics, 1430 West McCoy Lane in Santa Maria. After the training there will be an optional facility tour.

The next Academy begins in the fall of 2015 and participation is a requirement for certification.

The Academy workshops will:

  • – Teach you how to use and complete our online checklists.
  • – Explain how to meet program requirements in the areas of recycling, purchasing, energy and water conservation and efficiency, pollution prevention, and ride sharing.
  • – Allow you to meet other like-minded businesses and learn from each other.

Participation in the Green Business Program might save your business money, bring you more customers, and earn you praise and a raise. You will learn how to green any business, a skill that will undoubtedly come in handy. Workshop participation is free, but the cost of the Green Business certification process ranges from $100 to $600, based on the size and type of your business.

What does the Santa Barbara County Green Business seal mean?

The Green Business seal means local government auditors have verified that a business complies with strict environmental standards to reduce waste, prevent pollution and conserve resources.
