Santa Maria’s oldest Altrusa International club celebrated its 55th anniversary with a ribbon cutting at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce. Altrusa members were joined by Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino and Doug Coleman, legislative aide to Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian, and the Chamber Ambassadors for the ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Founded in 1917, Altrusa is made up of civic-minded people who are interested in creating better communities. Last year, Altrusans proudly gave over a million volunteer hours around the world, including clubs in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, England, Bermuda, Ireland, India, Scotland, New Zealand and Russia.
In Santa Maria, Altrusans have been a major part of many community projects. Hear Diane Alleman-Stevens describe their projects below.
