The City of Santa Maria is now delivering nearly 100 percent State Water to residents and businesses.  State Water is softer and has a lower mineral content than the local groundwater supply.

With the delivery of this higher quality water from now until the fall, residents are encouraged to minimize or discontinue the use of self-regenerating, salt-based water softeners.  This type of water softener wastes about 25 gallons of water per day to regenerate its media.  Water softeners also release salts into the environment, which build up in the water supply and affect local agriculture.

Minimizing or discontinuing the use of self-regenerating, salt-based water softeners will help the environment, save water, and save money!
