Santa Maria Area Transit (SMAT) is partnering with Google Transit to make using public transit in Santa Maria even more convenient.

20756913601_f35e6d7fa0_bRiders can now plan their trips using a smartphone, tablet, or desktop using Google Maps Transit, a popular web-based application that uses data provided by SMAT.  The trip planner is on the City’s website at www.cityofsantamaria.org/transit.

The online Trip Planner allows riders to customize their routes, view interactive maps, and get walking directions to the nearest bus stop and to their destination once they leave the bus. When riders enter their starting location and ending destination, Google Transit provides step-by-step directions and information, including:

  • Closest bus stop and departure times
  • Route names and numbers
  • Transfer locations
  • Trip fare
  • How long the trip will take

“In addition to making trip planning easier and more convenient for our current passengers, we also hope this will help us attract new riders,” said Austin O’Dell, Transit Manager.

Riders can plan trips on SMAT, the Breeze Bus, the Guadalupe Flyer, and the San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority Route 10.
