The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is extending the successful Safe N’ Strong summer program through the school year. Safe N’ Strong is designed to help keep youth active and safe during the after-school hours. Participants will enjoy interactive games and crafts projects while making new friends. The program is for youth in kindergarten through 6th grade and is absolutely free.
Beginning Tuesday, September 6th, the Safe N’ Strong program will run Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to dusk at the following locations: Newlove Community Building (1619 South Thornburg), Oakley Park (1300 North Western Avenue), and Tunnell Park (1100 North Palisade Drive).
A comparable program for junior high students will run at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, located at 600 South McClelland Street, from 2:30 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. each school day.
There is no cost to participate in this program and healthy snacks will be provided by the Santa Barbara County Food Bank and Community Action Commission agencies. No registration is required so just drop in at the site of your choice and stay safe and strong all year long.
