SANTA BARBARA, CA— The Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara is pleased to welcome Matthew Rowe to its Board of Directors. “The Scholarship Foundation is thrilled to have Matt as a member of the Board of Directors,” said Barrett O’Gorman, Board Chair. “Matt is passionate about our work and his investment expertise will be valuable to the board of directors as we aspire to manage our $45 million in investments as prudently as possible.”
Rowe is currently a financial advisor with The Santa Barbara Group at Morgan Stanley, where he works with high net-worth families in all areas of wealth management. A native of Australia, Rowe moved to New York City in 2000 and started his career as a financial advisor with Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. and subsequently worked at J.P. Morgan Securities. After relocating to Santa Barbara in 2008, Rowe joined The Kentor Company before moving to Morgan Stanley in 2011.
Rowe serves on the board of the Santa Barbara Family YMCA, and chairs the Y’s Annual Campaign for Youth and Families. Rowe and his wife Natalie are donors to Direct Relief and have joined the organization’s Legacy Society. A Type 1 diabetic, Rowe’s involvement with the William Sansum Diabetes Center and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a way for him to raise awareness about a disease that has impacted his life.
Rowe is excited to find another way to support youth throughout Santa Barbara. “I connect with the Scholarship Foundation’s mission because I truly believe that education is the most effective way for people to elevate themselves above their circumstances,” explained Rowe. “The Scholarship Foundation gives people from all backgrounds the chance to become more educated and therefore improve their lives, and the lives of those around them.”
Rowe earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from Monash University, as well as a law degree. Admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, Rowe practiced law in the area of property litigation before immigrating to the United States in 2000. Rowe holds securities, life, and health insurance licenses, and has earned the designation of Certified Investment Management Analyst® after completing a course of study with The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
