December is almost upon us, and with it many holiday treats. Among the first will be the Santa Maria Philharmonic Friday evening Holiday Baroque concert on December 2nd. Maestro Nowak and the orchestra will present a program of masterpieces drawn from the Baroque repertoire, opening with Archangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8, the “Christmas Concerto,” and featuring Alessandro Marcello’s most famous work, the Oboe Concerto in D Minor, with soloist Jessica Hoffman. The evening will conclude with works from the two giants of the Baroque: George Frederic Handel’s suite Water Music and from Johann Sebastian Bach, the Air from his Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major.
This beautiful concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 311 S. Broadway in Santa Maria on December 2, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. This is a wonderful setting for the concert but the seating is somewhat limited so be sure to order your tickets early – you can purchase them on-line here or you may call 805-925-0412 to make a reservation. And remember the pre-concert lecture will be given at 6:50 by Dr. Marcus Engelmann, recently retired from the music faculty of Allan Hancock College.
This concert will give you a chance to keep the music alive with a year-end donation that sponsors a musician. Look for the Sponsor a Musician display on December 2nd!
