Businesses that have achieved certification during the past year as “green” businesses from the Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County (GBPSBC) will be honored on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 during a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott, located at 555 McMurray Road in Buellton. Dennis Allen, owner of Allen Construction, a certified “green” business, will serve as the keynote speaker. The cost of the luncheon is $35.00 per person, if the registration and payment are received by February 6th, or $45.00 per person for registrations and payments received after that date.
The GBPSBC provides incentives, support, and recognition to participating businesses that implement mandatory and voluntary measures in solid waste reduction and recycling, environmentally preferable purchasing, energy and water conservation, and pollution prevention e.g. air quality, transportation and storm water runoff. A business that achieves certification can save money by reducing waste and conserving energy, water and other resources while fostering a healthier workplace.
Since the GBPSBC’s inception in December 2008, the GBPSBC has helped almost 100 local businesses and organizations save money and protect, preserve, and improve the environment. Currently, businesses in the following sectors are eligible to apply for certification: general office/retail stores, restaurants, lodging establishments, and automotive shops. Businesses that are interested in becoming a “green” certified business may apply during the next Cohort, scheduled to run from late February through June 2017.
