Family roots run deep at Jade’s Filipino Food. The local business, located at 2025 S. Broadway, Ste. B in Santa Maria, recently celebrated one year in business.
Jade’s Filipino Food Co-Owner Dorothy Swoopes says the business started with her mom’s recipes and grew as a collaboration between herself and her family. The restaurant is named in memory of Swoope’s niece, Jade, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2013.
“In honor of [Jade’s] name, to keep her in the family business and a part of the community, we named the restaurant after her,” Swoopes said.
Jade’s serves traditional Filipino cooking. “Right now, I believe we are the only ones who serve the traditional Filipino cooking in Santa Maria,” Swoopes said.
Swoopes says she loves that the business is collaboration with her family, and that they are able to share their cooking with the local community.
“It really started back with my parents – they love to cook. It was really her love for cooking that she passed down to all of us,” Swoopes said. “We all have that love for food. Food brings us together, and we’re here to share that with everyone else.”
