The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Sugar Daisy Bake Shop to the Chamber with a ribbon cutting!
“I’m a cottage food industry, which means I make baked goods out of my home,” Murray said. “I make cakes, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, breads, doughs…pretty much you name it, I can do it.”
Murray says she gets a variety of orders from her customers, but her most popular items are her chocolate lava and lemon drop cookies.
“The cookies are what I see a lot of people come back to order more of,” she said. “That’s where I get a lot of repeat customers.”
Customers come to Murray through word of mouth of the business, and through customers at Old Town Quilt Shop, where she also works. Murray has also participated in the Downtown Fridays famers Market in Santa Maria.
“I’ve gotten a lot of customers from having a booth at the farmer’s market,” Murray said. “it’s a lot of fun and it’s been great for business. It’s nice to see a lot of those customers come back and place more orders.”
For now, Murray enjoys having Sugar Daisy Bake Shop as a side business.
“Perhaps in the future I’d like to open up a bakery and have an actual Sugar Daisy Bake Shop. But for now, I’m having a lot of fun working out of my home and keeping the business small.”
Murray’s favorite part of the business is providing treats for her customers.
“For me, it’s about seeing the smile on someone’s face when the open that cake or that cupcake,” she said, “and knowing that something I made made someone else happy. That’s the best part.”
