A short tour of the major periods of music history, including a world premiere from the here and now, aptly describes the program of the Faculty Recital to be performed by members of the Allan Hancock College music faculty. The recital will be given on Thursday, May 4, at 4 p.m. in the Severson Theatre on the college’s Santa Maria campus.
Ann Lucas, piano; Christopher Diaz, baritone, and Kimberly Sargen, soprano will perform during the faculty recital. They will be assisted by special guests Hancock Associate Superintendent/Vice President, Academic Affairs George Railey, saxophone; James Riccardo; violin; and Jeanne Shumway, cello.
The Baroque period will be represented both literally and in allusion. Railey and Diaz, a new faculty member, both will perform works by Handel. Sargen will sing the world premiere of Seasons of Life, a work for soprano, violin and piano that references the set of violin concerti, The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. The new work is a musical and poetic meditation by Riccardo, a violinist and poet.
The concert will conclude with the brilliant Romantic period work, Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor, for piano, violin, and cello.
Tickets are $10 and available at the PCPA Box Office beginning April 19, with all seats reserved. The Santa Maria Box Office is open from 12:30-7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
