The Santa Maria High School baseball team will be recognized at this week’s Downtown Fridays event, in a 7:00 p.m.ceremony at which Mayor Alice Patino will present a proclamation to the coaches and players.

The Mayor will thank Head Coach Rick Hebert, plus assistant coaches Joey Orozco, Alex Lopez, Omar Gonzales, and Marcus Lyghts, for their success in leading these fine young men in life lessons and teaching the sport of baseball.

This dominant Saints team on June 3rd won the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 6 baseball title, becoming the program’s first team to do so since 1957. Head Coach Hebert was named CIF Southern Section Coach of the Year; Paul Navarro is the division’s Player of the Year; and Tommy Herrera and Trevor Garcia made the All-CIF team.

The tight-knit team used outstanding pitching and a potent offense to earn an overall record of 21-11-1 including a remarkable playoff run in which they outscored opponents by a combined score of 66-12 over six playoff games.

Downtown Fridays, now in its second year, is a family-friendly event held every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to sunset at the Town Center West parking lot, all the way to September 29th, weather permitting. Admission and parking are free. Live music include both Spanish and English entertainment.
