EventPhotoFull_CPY 2017 Summit Flyer-Final (2)-page-001The Workforce Development Board in partnership with Allan Hancock College, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, PathPoint, Goodwill Industries, Santa Maria Parks and Recreation Department, and other local government agencies and private organizations will be hosting, this week, the Summer Jobs, Careers & Leadership Summit. It is a free community event with the goal of providing participants, and their parents, with information about youth employment programs (summer and year-round), as well as with the tools necessary for youth to be successful as they transition into the workforce or college, and information for the parents on how to support them.

The event will take place, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Allan Hancock College, 800 S. College Drive, Santa Maria, CA. The Youth Summit is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Room G-106), and the Parent Workshops from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. (Room C-40).

Presentations and services to be offered during the youth summit include:

  • Medical screenings
  • Information about summer and year-round youth employment opportunities
  • Motivational speaker
  • Financial literacy
  • Job readiness
  • Mental health workshop
  • Leadership development
  • Panel discussion about “employers’ expectations”
  • Others

The workshops for parents will include the following:

  • Information about how to support our children as they transition into the workforce
  • Information about how to support our children as they transition into college
  • Information about scholarships and financial aid
  • Community educational opportunities for parents
