LOMPOC VALLEY CENTER CAREER WEEK TO DIRECT

COMMUNITY TOWARD CAREER SUCCESS

Members of the community will have the opportunity to lunch and learn during Allan Hancock College’s Career Week at the Lompoc Valley Center starting Tuesday, September 5, through Thursday, September 7. A meal will be provided during the 12-1:30 p.m. meeting time.

The three-day event is open to high school students, college students and job seekers. The workshops will focus on resume development, networking and employment opportunities in and around the Lompoc Valley. The goal for the program is to equip people with the resources and tools needed to explore career options available throughout the Lompoc Valley.

“Each workshop is designed to work off one another. We want students to have a strong foundation to enhance their career exploration skills,” said Hancock counselor Antonio Ramirez. “Ultimately, we want to connect students to the key players in the community who can help them along their way to their academic and career goals.”

Attendees are invited to bring their resumes for review and feedback at the Interactive Resume Workshop. The second lunchtime sessions will focus on planned happenstance: using unplanned events to generate career opportunities. The week wraps up with the Success in the Lompoc Valley Panel supported by the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce. Local community leaders will share their success stories and the various career paths available in the city and surrounding area.

“We want students and the greater community to understand that preparation is the key to connecting them to their career goals,” said Ramirez.

The career week is a collaboration between Hancock’s Counseling Department, the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce and the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) office.
