FREE Nutrition Expedition this Sunday 

Families who come to this free program from 2 to 4 p.m. will get to make a healthy snack with educators from Marian Regional Medical Center and learn about healthy eating and exercise habits. This year-round program is held the second Sunday of each month at the Discovery Museum.

Weekly Programs

All afternoon weekly programs now begin at 2:30 p.m.

Aug. 11: Fit Friday

What creates night and day? At 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. we will learn about out planets orbit and rotation, as well as simulate the Earth’s rotation with our bodies. 

Aug. 12: Science Saturday

Join the Santa Maria Utilities Department to make your own sheet of recycled paper and learn all about this important resource at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Aug. 13: Super Sunday

Make a sun and moon fan inspired by Mexican Folk art from 12 to 4 p.m.

Aug. 15: Tuesday Tales

Without Margaret Hamilton’s computer code, none of the Apollo moon landings could have happened. Find out how Margaret saved the first lunar landing in “Margret and the Moon” by Dean Robbins at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Aug. 16: Preschool Patrol

Use binoculars to find images hidden on the moon’s surface in this fun, educational activity at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Aug. 16: Brain Builders

At 3:30 p.m., special guest Jennifer Jipson, an early education professor from Cal Poly, will lead Brain Builders on an exploration of the Red Planet as part of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific’s “My Sky Tonight” program.  

Aug. 17: Passport Thursday 

Track the total solar eclipse over the United States and learn what people in different states will see on Aug. 21! Check it out at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m
