BGCSMV Board Member Vera Biely Teaches Club Members Basics of Banking

On July 27, Vera Biely VP of Wells Fargo Bank gave a presentation to our teen Club members about money management. Her presentation titled “Basics of Banking” covered topics such as how to open and manage a bank account and simple budgeting. She also distributed pamphlets on “Planning for College” and “5-Step Guides for Paying for College.” The 25 members who attended also received goody bags from Wells Fargo.

Thank you to Vera and and Kristen for taking time to talk to our teens about such an important topic. A big thanks to Wells Fargo Bank for their continued support of our financial literacy programs.

Shoes for Students

Shoes For Students

Each month we will be highlighting one of the many organizations that support BGCSMV. This month we would like to recognize Shoes for Students.

Sometimes our staff members notice a child in critical need of new shoes. The ones they have are too big, too small, worn out or maybe they are still wearing flip flops during the winter. When we see these situations, we reach out to Shoes for Students for assistance.

Shoes for Students is an amazing homegrown organization that supports the children and families in our local communities. In 1998, many teachers and administrative staff at local schools noticed that there were some students that did not have proper shoes. They realized there was a real need in the community and Shoes for Students was born. They serve students in Santa Maria-Bonita, Orcutt, Casmalia, Guadalupe and other local school districts.

The aid is completely confidential. A referred student is given a gift certificate so that
they can go and pick out their own new shoes. Shoes for Students have been able to expand their support to clothing and jackets.

At BGCSMV we are very grateful to have this resource available when we find one of our Club members in need. Thank you for being a wonderful asset for the children and teens of our community.
