COSTCO RELOCATES TO A BIGGER AND BETTER BUILDING
IN SANTA MARIA ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Costco will replace its Santa Maria location with a new facility 1 mile south, at 1700 S. Bradley Road on Thursday, September 21, at 8 a.m. Costco opened its original location in Santa Maria in November 1988.

The company determined that the original location was too small to adequately provide all the amenities newer buildings have. The original location will close at the end of business on Wednesday, September 20.

The new Santa Maria building (located on South Bradley Road) is 18 percent larger, at 156,000 square feet, compared to the original 132,000 square feet. The building will have the latest services that Costco offers, including a 24-pump Gas Station, which also offers diesel.

“In addition to exciting new and expanded services, the relocation of the Santa Maria facility will provide our members with an extensive product selection in numerous categories – including fine wine, apparel and electronics,” said Warehouse Manager Jim Blount.

The new warehouse will offer quality, brand-name and private-label merchandise at substantially lower prices than can be found through conventional wholesale or retail sources. Costco helps small- to medium-size businesses save money on items for resale and on supplies, and provides a wide range of products and services for members’ personal use as well.

In addition to the departments already listed, the new location will feature expanded Fresh Meat, a Fresh Deli with Rotisserie Chicken, Photo Center, Optical Department with Independent Doctor of Optometry, Food Court and Hearing Aid Center. The new location also will feature Fresh Produce, Fresh Bakery, Pharmacy, Tire Center, and Beer, Liquor, and Fine Wine.

This warehouse will employ 350, compared to 270 at the original building. Costco operates 125 warehouses in California, 514 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and 741 worldwide.

The company has been recognized throughout the country for providing its employees with real living wages – the highest in the industry – and for its ethical business practices.

Costco’s home office is located in Issaquah, Wash. The company is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol COST.
