We recently welcomed Threshold Ministries Inc. to the Chamber with a ribbon cutting! Threshold Ministries, Inc. is an officially recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is hard at work helping to break the cycle of poverty in Linjiang, China.
“Since 1995 we have been sponsoring children in China,” explained Hai Yan Liu, CEO of Threshold Ministries. “To date, we have sponsored about 600 children.”
Children go through a strict selection process to become part of the sponsorship program Threshold Ministries offers. After evaluating the children’s needs, their staff carefully determines how best the ministry can help the child. Most children remain at home with their parents or guardians and benefit from the care that Threshold Ministries provides though their Outreach Sponsorship Program. The program provides food, clothing, education and emergency care to those in need.
Additionally, Threshold Ministries has the Hope House, a beautiful 22,000 square foot orphanage, where they take in homeless, abused or abandoned children.
“The care we provide makes a serious impact on a childs’ life,” Liu explained. “We have had 297 students graduate from technical schools because of the our program. Because of the generous help of our sponsors, these children can have a future and live a good life.”
Threshold Ministries recently relocated their office to 130 North Broadway Street in Orcutt.
“We needed a larger space, and we wanted to open up a gift shop as well,” Explained Robert Wedaa, Chairman of the Board for Threshold Ministries, Inc. “The gift shop allows us to bring in items from China, have them available to sale here in our office, and all of those proceeds go back into the organization and help support the children.”
Among the items available for purchase are one of a kind pieces including handmade jewelry and children’s books written by Wedaa, and illustrated by the programs’ students over in China.
Wedaa encourages all to come check out the gift shop and learn more about Threshold Ministries, Inc.
“We always have a waiting list of children desperately in need out in China,” Wedaa said. “We are always looking for more sponsor to help us help these wonderful kids. Without our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to come close to helping the number of children we do each year.”
