Black Bear Diner owners and employees are joined by Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitor and Convention Bureau Ambassadors and City of Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino as they cut the ceremonial ribbon welcoming them to the Chamber.

We recently welcomed Black Bear Diner to the Chamber and helped them celebrate their grand opening with a ribbon cutting.

“My parents decided they wanted to open  a Black Bear Diner after visiting myself and my family in Sacramento,” explained Kyle Fitzpatrick, HR/ Marketing Manager at Black Bear Diner in Santa Maria. “I took them to the Black Bear Diner out there and they fell in love with it.”

The restaurant, located at 335 E. Betteravia Rd in Santa Maria, officially opened August 7, 2017. Fitzpatrick says the restaurant isn’t like your typical diner.

“Black Bear Diner is what’s considered an anti-diner, meaning it’s a little bit of a different experience than what you may expect to find in a diner setting,” he explained. “it’s a little more involved, I would say. We take a lot of pride in how we present our atmosphere, our employees, our dishes – and really strive to give our customers the best all around experience at our restaurant.”

One thing that is typically of most diners is the large portion size Black Bear serves up.

Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitor and Convention Bureau Membership Manager presents the ceremoinal ribbon to Black Bear Diner.

“Everything is served with the intention of you leaving here stuffed,” Fitzpatrick said. “We have massive plates with massive portions. All around it’s a different experience than you’ll get anywhere else.”

Black Bear Diner says they’re now working on completing their large upstairs space, which will have a separate kitchen space and be available for larger parties, banquets and other events. Construction on the space is expected to begin late December and take about 6 months.

Fitzpatrick, who has worked at other restaurants in the past, says that his favorite part of being part of the team at Black Bear Diner is interacting with the Santa Maria community.

“The people in this town are amazing,” Fitzpatrick says. “I love coming to work everyday, I love meeting people, I love checking up on people and making sure they are having a good experience. It’s been great. Every day I look forward to coming in to work.”
