Santa Maria Visitors Bureau’s Fall & Winter Promos Revving Up
As the sun sets on another amazing summer in the Santa Maria Valley our fall and winter promotions are well underway. Most of the marketing efforts and strategies implemented from year-to-year really begin revving up during what the industry labels as “slow season”. On the surface a “slowing” of sorts is certainly true, however the individuals driving our local tourism and hospitality industry are working hard to ensure the future of this very important economic sector.
Each year there are a couple of free promotional opportunities for our member hospitality partners that everyone should know about.
The Santa Maria Valley Visitors Bureau will be joining in on the statewide Restaurant Week promotion through Visit California. The program is designed in a way to drive business to local eateries following the holiday season. In years past participants have included wineries, breweries, bakeries, coffee shops and many local restaurants.
The criteria to participate is minimal with the Bureau handling the marketing and media efforts as well as printed material for participating businesses. You can offer an appetizer, a dessert, a meal or maybe a pairing of local wine and dessert, as an example. Ideally, the offer should be $20.18 to coincide with Visit California’s existing platform however there have been deviations to this within other regional efforts. If you are interested in taking advantage of this great promotion, please contact Jennifer Harrison directly for details at email@example.com or by calling (805) 925-2403 x815. The more participants we have the more successful the promotion. Let us work together to create a stronger voice and bring awareness to our local wine, brew and dining scene.
Special Project Grant Program
Another great opportunity each year is through the Special Projects Grant program. Rather than trying to organize a year’s worth of events ourselves, the Visitors Bureau supports local organizations by providing marketing grants for events held in the Santa Maria Valley. The collaborative effort, with a wide range of event producers, creates an opportunity to generate overnight stays and more dollars to local businesses. In the 2016-2017 Fiscal Year, the Bureau provided approximately $50,000 to support 19 distinct events.
Organizations who received funding through the SPG program include Bent Axles Car Club, Central Coast Tennis, Cruzin’ for Life, Elks Recreation, Guadalupe Nipomo Dunes, HCE Productions, Kiwanis of Santa Maria, Model A Ford Club, P.L.A.Y. Inc., Pacific Conservatory Theatre, Pickups Limited, Santa Maria Fairpark, Santa Maria Discovery Museum, Tailwinds, Boys & Girls Club and West Coast Kustoms.
In order to be awarded a grant, applicants must be a Chamber member, need to agree to use the funding to expand their advertising and/or marketing in areas outside of Santa Maria. Events must be held in Santa Maria or Orcutt and priority is given to those scheduled during our “slow season,” (September through May).
Additionally, by receiving a grant it allows us an opportunity to promote your event through our social platforms as well as on our community calendar. New events are encouraged to apply!
