The Valley Reads Book Club

The Santa Maria Public Library is pleased to present its monthly book club, The Valley Reads, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28th, in the Dorothea Nelson Room located on the second floor.

House on Mango Street is a coming-of-age story written by Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros. It tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, a young girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago. Capturing her thoughts and emotions in poems and stories, Esperanza is able to rise above hopelessness in the midst of oppressive surroundings.

The Valley Reads meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month in Shepard Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each month a new book title is read and discussed. Complimentary snacks and coffee are served.

To join The Valley Reads please come to the Santa Maria Public Library and sign-up with staff at the second-floor information desk.

The Library’s hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Library is closed on Sunday. The Library is located at 421 S. McClelland Street.
