Allan Hancock College will keep the Santa Maria and Lompoc Valley campuses open on Monday, December 11, in order to accommodate fall semester finals.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and taking all the precautions we can at all of our campuses, said Hancock Superintendent/President Kevin G. Walthers, Ph.D. “We also know this is an important time for our students with finals scheduled throughout the week.”

While Santa Maria and Lompoc will remain open, the college’s Santa Ynez Valley Center and Vandenberg AFB Center will be closed on Monday. However, the college has made arrangements for approximately 60 Santa Ynez Valley students to take finals in the Root 246 Ballroom at the Hotel Corque during their regularly scheduled final exam time. Hotel Corque is located at 400 Alisal Road in Solvang.

At both the Santa Maria and Lompoc Valley campuses, college officials will open additional classrooms and common space to provide students with inside space to wait in-between exams.    N-95 respirator masks will be available for students at both the Student Center (bldg. G) in Santa Maria and building 1 in Lompoc.

The college’s Child Care Center will also remain open to accommodate students and area families. All children will remain indoors during the day. The college has no athletic events planned.

“The safety of our students, faculty and staff and their families is paramount,” said Walthers.  “We will continue to monitor air quality and re-evaluate the best path forward as events unfold.  Our campus infrastructure provides a safe, clean air environment for students and staff.  Our thoughts are with all in our community who have been affected by the fire.”

Students should monitor the college’s website at www.hancockcollege.edu for updates and more information.
