ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE OFFERS “START” SESSIONS
FOR NEW AND RETURNING HANCOCK STUDENTS
Spring 2018 credit classes begin the week of Jan. 22 at Allan Hancock College. Registration is under way.
Many new, continuing and returning students must be assessed prior to enrolling. This is done through START (Student Testing, Advising, Retention and Transition) placement exams. START is a process developed by Allan Hancock College to help students succeed in college. The assessment is free and is not an entrance exam. Anyone 18 years or older who can benefit from instruction is eligible to attend Allan Hancock College. High school graduates under age 18 are also eligible for enrollment, as are high school students who enroll in Hancock’s College Now! program. All students will need to complete the online admissions application to receive their AHC student ID number that is required to take the START test. Students with certain qualifications, including students taking classes for life-long learning or those with degrees, are exempt from assessment.
For assessment requirements, dates and times of testing and a complete list of exemptions to assessment, go to www.hancockcollege.edu and Quick Link “Testing Center” from the home page, or call 922-6966 or toll free 1-866-DIAL AHC (342-5242) ext. 3364.
START sessions are available at the Santa Maria campus and the Lompoc Valley Center on a walk-in basis during specified days and times. No appointments are necessary.
“The simple, computerized START test is a real boost to students,” said Rob Parisi, the college’s dean of student services. “It gives students flexibility for scheduling the test, and allows them to pace themselves while actually taking it. No computer experience is necessary.”
Online registration for spring credit classes is under way and continues through Jan. 21, 2018. College Now! students (local high school juniors and seniors) may register online now through Jan. 21.
The enrollment fee for California residents is $46 per credit. Other minimal fees may apply.
Registration fees for qualified low-income students may be waived. In addition, there are many financial aid programs to help students meet college costs. For details, visit the financial aid website at www.hancockcollege.edu/financialaid or call (805) 922-6966 ext. 3200.
For more registration information, call (805) 922-6966, or toll free from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties at 1-866 DIAL AHC (342-5242), ext. 3248.
