With generous funding from the Women’s Fund of Northern Santa Barbara County, the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation, the Roy and Ida Eagle Foundation, a Santa Barbara Bowl Grant, and the Altrusa International Foundation, the Santa Maria Philharmonic kicks into high gear with our Youth Outreach program this January.
First up is an opportunity you can see and hear for yourself! This Sunday, January 14th, the Philharmonic presents the Sixth Annual Youth Showcase: a recital by audition, for young musicians ages 8-18. These recitals have become a very popular performance opportunity for young musicians, displaying some of the most astonishing and accomplished young musicians on the Central Coast. This year, ten young musicians will play pieces from Bach to Telemann, performing on piano, violin, trumpet, and with voice. Admission is $10 at the door – bring your children or grandchildren to enjoy their peers for FREE (18 and under). Youth Showcase is presented at 3:00 pm at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4380 Orcutt Rd.
Later in January, over 2,000 Santa Maria-Bonita District fourth graders will enjoy one of four presentations of “Fly Me to the Moon,” an original concert to introduce children to classical music, developed and conducted by our Music Director, Maestro Michael Nowak. Watch for our February Newsletter to learn more about this Philharmonic program and how the children enjoyed it. If you would like to see this activity, consider volunteering to be an usher on either January 24th or 25th. Interested? Call 805-925-0412 or e-mail us.
Since your calendar is already open, make sure you have marked down Saturday, February 24th, at 7:30 pm to take a “Journey of the Heart” with our orchestra. Get your tickets here.
